If you’re heading north in Albania and want something a bit different, visit Shkodra with campervan. It’s got this relaxed vibe you won’t find in bigger cities, plus you’re right by the lake and not far from the Alps. Perfect if you’re rolling with your van and don’t want to rush.

We drove up here with one of the vans from GoVan, and honestly—it was smooth all the way. No crazy traffic, lots of space to stop and take in the views, and plenty of spots to park overnight.

What’s So Good About Shkodra?

It’s kind of a mix: part old-town charm, part adventure base. You’ve got cobbled streets, coffee shops everywhere, and Rozafa Castle towering over everything. But what really stands out is how camper-friendly it is.

Park up by the lake and you’re sorted for the night. Or head a bit out of town and find a peaceful wild camp spot (just double-check it’s okay to stop). We ended up by the water, watching the sunset, eating local cheese and bread from the market earlier that day. Simple, but perfect.

If you’re more into off-grid, drive toward Theth road—plenty of scenic stops.
